APAS 2015: Welcome Message

Dear APAS members and arthroplasty colleagues,

After another successful APAS meeting in Chengdu this year we are now organising the 16th annual scientific meeting of our society. Chengdu was a great host city in the centre of China with a thriving metropolis and exquisite spicy food. The faculty was on fire delivering an excellent program with many local and international contributions from 10 different countries. With my co-convenor Prof. Fuxing Pei the invited faculty of 27 surgeons and an additional 14 colleagues delivered over 100 papers. In addition there was 1 masterclass session and 3 industry led presentation sessions. For those who attended the conference feedback was positive and enthusiastic.

In 2015 we will be hosting our annual conference in Delhi, India. APAS was last in Delhi in 2009 and we are looking forward to returning to this city and delivering another equally informative and highly educational forum for discussion and debate. Our ongoing vision in APAS will be to deliver meetings that introduce debate and reflect on current issues in joint replacement that we meet every day in our current practice but also share with you topics that you may need to broaden your scope of practice into the future. Our aim is to give you the tools technically, scientifically and academically to allow you to deliver better outcomes for your patients. This will include central themes to joint replacement but also recent advances and controversy as well as region specific topics as we all appreciate that our practice is influenced by the geopolitics and cultures of each country in the Asia Pacific region.

I am delighted to have Dr Ashok Rajgopal as the local convenor.  Ashok was one of the earliest presidents of APAS and we are very fortunate to have his wisdom and guiding hand still ensuring APAS remains current and a society that will continue to provide value added education for all it's members.

The meeting is scheduled for 11th to 13th September 2015 with a preceding industry afternoon instructional session. I look forward to welcoming all our members to Delhi for this meeting and extend an open invitation to all arthroplasty surgeons to join our society and contribute to its ongoing academic endeavours.

Yours Sincerely

Rami Sorial
President, APAS

Dear members,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the historic city of Delhi for the 16th annual meeting of APAS.  After the resounding success of the last APAS meeting held in Chengdu, China this year, I’m sure we can all look forward to another very fulfilling academic meet in 2015.

Delhi played host to the first meeting of the APAS in the year 2000 and then again in 2009. This is the third time that we will have the opportunity to host you in our beautiful city.

As always the vision of APAS remains the same- discussions, debates and deliberations of sound academic content, both from a combined international and national faculty- hoping to give you answers to many burning issues that we face in everyday clinical practice.

Apart from this academic feast, that we hope to have ready for you, the wonderful city of Delhi has lots to offer its visitors and guests.  An ancient city with evidence of having been continuously inhabited since before the second millennium BC our city has grown to present stature, covering an area of 1,484 km2 (573 sq mi), of which 783 km2 (302 sq mi) is designated rural, and 700 km2 (270 sq mi) urban.

Today, it is a melting pot of cultures from all over India, offering everything the country has to offer in terms of history, art, culture, museums, ancient monuments and the quintessential cuisine.

I look forward to welcoming you to Delhi, our national capital in September 2015

Sincerely yours

Dr. Ashok Rajgopal
