Introduction: Total hip arthroplasty is a frequent procedure for orthopedic surgeons specialized in the lower extremities. Although this procedure is well defined in most cases, certain principles must be followed to obtain the expected functional results and for long term implant survival. Type of study : Prospective. Study centre : Govt. Kilpauk medical college and hospital. Study period : 2014 – 2016. Materials and methods : Cases requiring total hip arthroplasty were studied and their difficulties were assessed.Regular clinical and radiological follow up after total hip arthroplasty was done and outcome was assessed using harris hip score. Results : The harris hip score post operatively ranged from 82.6 to 86.3. All patients had an improvement of more than 20 points in harris hip score showing good results. Conclusion : We recommend thorough pre operative planning and having an armamentarium of instruments and prosthesis before doing total hip arthroplasty.
