Today’s hip precautions and return to daily function

Rhidian Morgan-Jones

Hip arthroplasty patients are some of the most satisfied patients and long term outcomes are generally excellent irrespective of surgical technique. In the short-term though, there may often be some restrictions by way of ‘hip precautions’, restricted driving times, and modification of activities to avoid dislocation.

The aim of this talk is to look at the evidence for and against ‘hip precautions’, what is generally safe and what restrictions may be unnecessary. We will also discuss early return to function and merits and problems.
