INTRODUCTION :- Obesity is an independent causative factor in development of knee osteoarthritis. This study studies the influence of BMI on age of presentation and functional outcome in patients requiring TKA as measured by standard outcome scores. OBJECTIVE :- Study influence of BMI on age of presentation and functional outcome in patients requiring TKA as measured by standard outcome scores. METHOD :- Among 447 primary TKA done, complete clinical data of 254 patients (pre and post op evaluation) were recovered from Hospital Arthroplasty Registry. These patients were evaluated clinically with predictors including age and BMI. Exclusion criteria were adhered. Pre and post-operative clinical evaluation were done using Knee Society Score (KSS) and WOMAC scores to measure functional outcome. Results were analyzed using Excel and SPSS Ver.22 . RESULTS: - The average age of the cohort was 62.12 (43- 88 years) - 21.7% in the healthy group; 40.2% in the pre-obese group. Significant improvement in post KSS score irrespective of patient’s BMI (p value= 0.002) with no significant difference between each BMI category (p = 0.113). However there is significant improvement in WOMAC score of overall BMI and in each BMI category.
