I am honoured this year to be working with our current APAS President, Prof. Cao Li and his team to assist in bringing you the next Annual Scientific Meeting for our society in August 2019. The venue selected will be the port city of Xiamen in Fujian Province in southeast China. It is located on a vehicle free island with nearby beaches and old colonial villas and was seen as China’s most romantic leisure city in 2011.

After a very successful conference in Bangkok in 2018 where the theme of the conference focussed on periprosthetic joint infections, this year’s theme will be “Achieving Better Outcomes in Arthroplasty”. In addition to presentations from a very diverse and high quality international and local faculty there will also be a combination of debates and expert panel sessions to stimulate thought provoking discussions. Free Papers and a Best Paper prize will allow our junior colleagues to present their scientific endeavours to the society.

We have the added privilege this year of running our meeting concurrently with that of the Chinese Arthroplasty Society whose presentations will continue over the following 2 days after our meeting concludes. I am sure this will allow good cross fertilisation of ideas and approaches to the management of all of our patients.
