Impaction Bone Grafting (IBG) is a surgical technique used in revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) to address acetabular bone loss. It involves filling bone defects with morselized (crushed) cancellous bone grafts, which are then firmly compacted. This impacted bone acts as a biological void filler, restoring bone stock, and eventually gets incorporated and substituted by the patient’s own host bone over time. The primary goals of IBG are to restore hip center and joint biomechanics while achieving stable fixation of the acetabular component.
